Workshop Description:
Language is constantly changing. As educators, sometimes, we feel a bit behind the times. However, we can use this evolution of language to authentically communicate with our students and give them space to authentically communicate with each other in the learning environment. Join us in learning how to utilize internet and urban slang, and code-switching in the classroom that promotes positive language choices, respect, and authenticity, while facilitating studentsā deep understanding of the content.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify how/when to appropriately integrate current language in curriculum.
- Participants will be able to understand the impact of using cultural slang in their role as an authoritarian in a school setting.
- Participants will reflect on their responsibility in modeling code switching to students in various settings.
